Tournament Structure

The Champions Tournament is divided into three qualifying trials of two rounds each throughout 2025 (the three trials allow for some downtime between games.) 22 teams from the qualifying trials win a 'Golden Ticket' entry to the Final Championship, held 11 to 17 November 2025.

Qualifying Trial Months and Rounds Entry fee (per person, GST incl)
Trial 1 January/ February/ March Round 1/ Round 2 $30
Trial 2 April/ May/ June Round 3/ Round 4 $30
Trial 3 July/ August/ September Round 5/ Round 6 $30

During each qualifying trial period, your golf club offers three monthly medal rounds. These form the basis of the tournament. After signing up, your team decides which two monthly medal rounds you'll play as WACT4BBB Champions Tournament qualifying rounds.

The first round in each qualifying trial is the qualifying round, in which one of your team members must qualify as captain by finishing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in either A, B, or C grade in your club’s monthly medal round.

The second round in each qualifying trial is the Captain + Team qualifying round. The score from this is added to your previous round's score to decide whether or not your team qualifies for a Golden Ticket - your entry into the Final Championship.

Even if you don’t qualify during the trials, complete both rounds and enter both cards, and you'll have a chance to win a lucky draw Golden Ticket for your team.

Each team must complete a chosen three-month qualifying trial before starting a new one. Teams can enter one or as many qualifying trials as they wish, with each qualifying trial having a $30 (GST incl) entry fee per team member.

The qualifying rounds in more detail

All amateur golfers (who are members of a private club and hold a golf link number handicap) can form a four-person team. The team chooses a qualifying trial to participate in, and enters online. In the qualifying trial period, two rounds of the club's monthly medal are nominated by the team as being WACT4BBB qualifying rounds.

In the first WACT4BBB qualifying round, at least one player of the team must qualify as captain by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their grade in the monthly medal. All four members of the team then record their positions/placing in both the monthly medal and WACT4BBB fields and enter them on the WACT4BBB scorecard online. This becomes the team’s score for this qualifying round.

If more than one team member qualifies, then the highest qualifying player is the captain - regardless of grade. For example: player A comes 2nd, and player B comes 1st; players C and D did not place. Grades are ignored; as 1st beats 2nd, player B would be the captain. If no team member qualifies as captain, then the team fails to qualify. (However, the team can still win a lucky Golden Ticket to the Final Championship by playing on and submitting completed cards from the two qualifying rounds.)

The next round is the monthly medal round your team has chosen as the WACT4BBB captain + team qualifying round.

For the second WACT4BBB team qualifying round, here’s a clear process:

  • Team Captain Confirmation: By this point, the team captain should be officially qualified and leading the team.
  • Gameplay Setup: The second round will follow the same format as the first qualifying round. The key is to ensure that no team member marks the card for a fellow team member to maintain fairness.
  • Score Compilation: After completing the round, the scores from both the first and second qualifying rounds will be combined to form the final team score for the qualifying trial.
  • Score Submission: All scores must be entered on the official WACT4BBB online scorecard platform for the presentation of the qualifying trials allocated Golden Tickets.

After each qualifying trial, the Golden Tickets for that trial will be determined and sent out.

Up to three qualifying trials, each comprising a qualifying round and captain + team round, can be completed, for a total six rounds over 32 weeks. Your team can choose to enter only one qualifying trial or up to all three to see if you can earn (or win) a Golden Ticket!
